EDC announced today that it provided $1M in financing to EnergyGeeks, an innovative Canadian company that has simplified the process for consumers across North America to convert their homes or businesses to solar energy.
Their online platform uses a proprietary matching algorithm that recommends solar products to consumers based on their needs and existing infrastructure. The company’s highly skilled solar advisors also provide free expert-level guidance through the entire solar journey, from choosing the right products to the final installation and beyond.
“We’re proud that our technology allows consumers to easily sift through the complicated solar energy marketplace and get recommendations for the right products that suit their needs, simply and easily,” said Mackie Hilborn, CEO at EnergyGeeks. “This support from EDC will enable us to expand our market across the U.S., while helping us ramp up to meet ever-growing global demand for solar technology as a clean energy choice.”
EDC is Canada’s largest financier of clean technology companies. Supporting this innovative and fast-growing sector of the Canadian economy has been a priority for EDC since 2012. Understanding the unique needs of the sector, we’ve built a dedicated cleantech team that is focused on delivering solutions to companies in the sector to help them scale internationally.
“Last year, EDC provided a record CAD $1.5 billion in support for cleantech exporters, and we will exceed that this year. Canada is loaded with innovators in this sector, and we are committed to helping these companies grow internationally and become global champions,” said Carl Burlock, Senior Vice President, Financing and International Growth Capital at Export Development Canada. “EnergyGeeks is a great example of the type of innovative companies that EDC is committed to supporting.”
